Pricing Guide for Artist and Con Vendors

Pricing Guide for Artist and Con Vendors

When it comes to pricing custom artworks and commissions, it's important to consider various factors to ensure fair compensation for your time and talent. Let's explore key aspects to keep in mind when determining the price for your prints and merch designs.

Prints and Merch Designs

For custom artworks (in general), pricing can vary based on the size, medium, complexity and time required for both completing the design once and calculating the time it takes for
You: to sketch, line, colour and shade

from your supplier to: produce, post and package the merch.

Consider the time it takes for you to finish the design, the level of expertise.
(Obviously) You don't need to consider the price of materials even for a 1:1 (One of One) if it's being used for prints and Merch...

💡It's also a good idea to compare prices with other vendors for similar quality art/designs to ensure you are pricing competitively but not over-pricing..

Some general guides define a good margin to be the total cost of the artwork (as a commission) - Production Cost + shipping, added once to create a profit margin.

That way you can offer discounts and mix and match offers with other (less popular) pieces..

Commissions

If you are accepting commissions there are various things to take into account..
This also applies to Prints and Merch Designs in some ways too...
1.Time: Calculate the hours required to complete the artwork, including research, sketching, and revisions.
2.Materials: (If Arting an original) Factor in the cost of materials used, such as canvas, paint, etc.. and any other supplies into account.
3.Expertise: Consider your level of skill and experience when setting your pricing. More experienced artists may have higher rates. or Those who are high-demanding.
4.Market Rates: Research what other artists are charging for their own custom artworks and commissions to stay competitive *remember to consider their popularity, it makes a big difference when an artist is high demand*
5.Client Budget: Take into account the client's budget and be transparent about your pricing structure. If they're unable to fit that; think about offering a payment plan or a temporary reschedule if it's not considered a rush order.
6.Skill Ceilings and Referrals: We all have a limit to what we can accomplish and Sure, it's unpleasant to think that, but consider networking with other artists and have a referral circle going; If they can't create something You can then they could potentially refer their client to you and vice versa for either a one-off referral You can both agree on or a % commission for the referral...It's Win Win.

Remember, your time and talent are valuable, so ensure that your pricing reflects the quality and effort you put into each piece and be consistent with pricing and regular market updates.
